Now this is real regatta coverage

I have fallen asleep on the coach during a TV program about the worlds in 49er. That shouldn’t be possible for a more than average interested sailor. But the commentators where soooo boring that I went in black. This ESPN report from the Heineken Regatta is what it is all about. Please bring more of this stuff, because here sailing becomes media friendly.

If you fall over board time is critical. A coastguard boat or rescue chopper will take a while to reach you. The boats close by are your safest bet – if you have the new personal locator beacon that combines AIS and GPS.

In 1998 the iconic ocean race Sydney – Hobart Race was struck by a deadly storm. The result was devastating as six sailors died in the storm. The tragedy has had major impact on ocean sailing.

Swedish sailor found after 80 days

The 66 year old Swede Stig Lundvall was rescued Tuesday 40 nautical miles off the coast og South Africa. He left Falmouth in July last year and hasn’t been seen since. He lost the mast on his Marieholm 26 in a violent storm and had been drifting for 11 weeks before he was found. Continue Reading

The 27th Atlantic Rally for Cruisers is now fully subscribed, and the wait list is open. More boats have been offered places this year, and there will be around 230 at start the rally on 25 November in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
